spike" ceremony. The golden spike ceremony was held at Promontory, Utah on May 10,
1869. A laurel tie was placed on the grade, followed by the two rails, and
finally a golden spike was put in place to be driven in by chief engineers
Greenville M. dodge and Dan Casement for the Union Pacific and Samuel S. Montague
of the Central Pacific's Jupiter.
